macksville-bridgeMacksville is located on the banks of the Nambucca River 498 km north-east of Sydney and 12 km south of Nambucca Heads. Noted for its fishing and oyster-farming, it is Kumbaingeri or Ngamba Aboriginal land.

The first Europeans were cedar-cutters who explored the Nambucca and Bellinger Rivers searching for timber in 1839.

After the 1861 Lands Act, the first white settlers began to establish large dairy herds. A small settlement known as Nambucca or Central Nambucca emerged in the 1870s at the same time as Bowraville and Nambucca Heads.

Dragon Boating on the Nambucca River

Macksville Ex-Services Club is the major sponsor of the Nambucca River Dragons. We donated the money to the Nambucca River Dragons for the purchase of their first boat, and we support NRD with ongoing fundraising and events at the Club.

Nambucca River Dragons Incorporated is a sporting association that aims to introduce and encourage participation in the sport of Dragon Boating for all residents of the Nambucca Valley and environs, including all major population centres such as Macksville, Nambucca Heads, and Bowraville.

Nambucca River Dragons is a not-for-profit organisation, funded by memberships, donations, and grants. They are keen to see the beautiful Nambucca River graced by Dragon Boats, and to see particpants realise the benefits of exercise, sunshine, water sport, and social interaction.

Please take the time to look around the Nambucca River Dragons website to find out more about this fantastic sport — one that may open doors to fitness, friendship, and travel for you and your friends.
